Taken was made up of images gathered from the Yukon Archives during the summer of 2009. Several of them were first published in Visual Arts Nova Scotia (summer 2009) as a photo-essay. This work, showing the institutional life of the children, was a partial answer to the question of what we are sorry for. By recontextualizing images from the Yukon’s Carcross Indian Residential School, this work is a continuation of the We Are Sorry project. I presented it in China as a counterpoint to the usual representation there of Canada having a clean record in upholding human rights.
